Best Power Supplies for 2021

Your PC’s power supply unit plays an important role in the reliability of your system depending on its performance, so you need to be careful when choosing the right power supply unit for your system in case something goes wrong with your power supply or other components.

Otherwise, it is obviously not the best power supply and puts other expensive parts of the PC at risk. Of course, you also have different concerns depending on whether your power supply is powering a monster mining rig, an always hectic workstation, or a simple productivity or gaming PC.

Quick Tips for Buying Power Supplies

First, determine your electricity needs. You don’t have to buy more potential horsepower than you will use.You can estimate the amount of power your new or upgraded system draws from the wall and find an outlet that suits your needs. Some power suppliers provide calculators that allow you to roughly estimate the power requirements of the system. You probably don’t need a 1000 watt power adapter, even for an extreme gaming rig. A few years ago, all of the graphics cards at the top of our GPU benchmarks hierarchy were using a lot of power, but that has changed with the newer Nvidia architectures.

You just don’t need to buy a 1kW power supply for a pair of RTX 2080s, an 800W model will do just fine and also leave room for an overclocked CPU, as you can see in our hierarchy of CPU benchmarks. The new Radeon RX 5700 XT should aim for higher power consumption and use these cards in conjunction with power supplies to achieve higher peak performance.

Please check the size of your case before purchasing. If you have a standard ATX PC case, the ATX power supply may be fine. However, many higher performance power supplies are longer than a typical 5.5-inch power supply. the free space of the power supply in its box. If you have a very small or thin PC case, you may need a less typical (and more compact) SFX power supply.
Would you like a clean structure or work in a small housing? Think of a modular power supply: If your case has a lot of space behind the mainboard or your case has no window or glass side, you can of course bundle the cables. You don’t need them and save them on your platform.

Corsair CX450

Of the two variants of the Corsair CX450, the Great Wall version is more efficient than the CWT, especially with low loads, and has a more efficient 5VSB rail. On the other hand, it has a more aggressive fan profile, which increases the noise level. In the US market, you can only find the CWT version made in Vietnam, not made in China, which avoids tariffs and keeps the price low.

Corsair RM550x (2021)

The smallest member of the new RMx series is equipped with a first-class magnetic floating fan that does not affect the overall noise development, which makes the new RM550x one of the quietest power supplies in the 550 W category. It would be great if Corsair added a second EPS connector to the device, but most people will be very satisfied with the connection options.

XPG Core Reactor 650W

The XPG Core Reactor with 650W peak power can achieve a higher total output than the The two top picks in this category, Corsair RM650x and Seasonic Focus Plus Gold, have similar capacities. Despite its compact size, the fan runs quietly due to its loose shape. The quality of workmanship is high and the guarantee given corresponds to the offers of the competition. Finally, two EPS connectors ensure compatibility with high-end motherboards, but must be installed in a dedicated drive cable, which is usually a large power supply.

Corsair RM750x (2021)

It wasn’t easy to offer a better product than the existing RM750x (2018), but Corsair has done it and the new model achieves noticeably better performance. Compared to the previous model, it loses quietly, but with an overall volume of 28 dBA it cannot be called loud. In general, this is an excellent power supply that ranks among the best in the 750W gold category.

Corsair AX850

If you need the best 850W power supply and are not on a tight budget, the AX850 should be one of your best options and it’s silent too.Although this is the best quality 850W power adapter, it is not a perfect device. I wish the current trigger points on the sub rails were lower, there was a greater spacing between the peripheral connections (ideally 150mm) and 16 AWG meters on the EPS connections.

Corsair AX1000

Corsair AX1000 is one of the best 1kW power supplies on the market. If you want the highest possible performance combined with quiet operation, you can make it the centerpiece of your next build (as long as the price isn’t right, don’t panic). This extremely powerful power supply offers tight load regulation on all rails, unbelievable ripple suppression and an unbelievably high degree of efficiency. Its transient response is impressive, so it is not surprising that it takes the lead in the Seasonic 1000W 80 PLUS Platinum and Titanium Rated models. (although they were built on the same platform with minor modifications).
